Renewable Energies & Environment
Events, current information and advice in the fields of renewable energies, energy efficiency and environmental technologies.
The multi-stakeholder dialogue forum of industry, government and development partners aims to catalyse market development in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency. Each year, four events are organized on key business interests such as investment climate, professional qualification, regulations and public-private engagement.
The platform is organized by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria (DGIC). The activities of the platform are carried out by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) in cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). Funded by the European Union and the German government, the project is further supported by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP), which is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Winrock International.
With the development of the range of services for renewable energies, AHK Nigeria is paving the way for this industry in Nigeria.
Background: Despite its huge oil and gas reserves, only 50 percent of the estimated 150 million Nigerians are supplied with electricity. The majority of people who have to live without electricity live in rural areas. Nigeria generates about 6000 MW at the full capacity of the dams in the north of the country, which are the only source of electricity, of which only half reaches the consumer due to the weak grid. The establishment of the "Renewable Energy Desk" as well as the GIZ "Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP)", which began in March 2013, is a result of the German-Nigerian Energy Partnership, which has existed since 2008.
The "Renewable Energy Desk" creates a platform for information dissemination and business initiation for Nigerian and German companies. The Renewable Energy Desk also provides information on contacts at government institutions, civil society organisations and financing opportunities. The latter, above all, in the area of loan procurement and co-financing through PPP.
Priority areas therefore include
- Inventory and categorisation of planned and existing activities in the field of renewable energy in Nigeria.
- Inventory of companies, institutions and stakeholders in the renewable energy sector.
- Awareness raising and lobbying measures, match making events, business travels, trade fairs.
Series of events
Together with the German Consulate General in Lagos, we hold about eight information events a year on renewable energies and environmental technology in Nigeria. Participants include representatives of the private sector, the government, NGOs, CSOs and international organizations (GIZ, UNDP, etc.). In addition to providing information, the event also serves to initiate business.
